Pivot Wheel Sorter

Sort goods quickly and efficiently with pivot wheel sortation

Pivot wheel sorters are usually belt driven, and sort using two sets of wheels that pivot separately and in sequence. These sorters are positioned at each divert station. Pivot wheel sorters run up to about 90 cartons per minute.

A popular option across numerous industries and applications, pivot wheel sorters are flexible and simple to implement. This sortation option does not require a lot of space, which makes them a great option for a smaller stretch of conveyor sortation or if several diverts are required in a relatively small section of conveyor. Bastian Solutions, as an independent integrator, has access to a variety of automated sortation technologies and design tools to help identify the best solution to support your throughput goals and help you exceed your customers’ expectations.

How Pivot Wheel Sorters Work

Pivot wheel sorters use two sets of wheels that pivot independently and in sequence. Placed at each divert, the pivot wheel sorter spaces products out and allows for small gaps between each product. Adequate product spacing is required to ensure that the divert station has had time to cycle and prevents products from accumulating to create a disordered backup.

Sometimes considered alongside high rate transfers, pivot wheel sorters offer more application versatility. These transfers work well in all transfer applications but were specifically designed for high rate transfers within pick modules.

Pivot wheel diverts (PWD), although similar in name and sometimes referenced together, are angular diverts that allow products to maintain speed during transfers. Its modular design means it can easily replace any belted or roller conveyor section. Pivot wheel sorters, on the other hand, position cases for diversion – to the right, left or two-sided.

Features & Benefits

A very popular choice in medium rate sortation is the pivot wheel sorter, shown here. Pivot wheel sorters typically are belt driven, which provides a reliable method of tracking packages to the divert stations.

This sortation equipment is less costly than a shoe sorter, however, pivot wheel sortation is not recommended for long (greater than 30 inches) or very small products.

Product skewing must be provided to position cases for diversion; right hand, left hand or two-sided diverts are available.

Specifications

Known for its versatility, pivot wheel sorters offer a common, universal design that can be employed in several applications, including:
