Pio

Accessible, Affordable Automation for Storage and Order Picking

Pio is an ultra-compact, stand-alone automated storage system that helps operations efficiently store, retrieve, and pick items for fulfillment online, in-store, or for backroom storage. Created by AutoStore, this low-cost RaaS (robots-as-a-service) system is a practical solution for ecommerce operations, 3PLs and retail stores to improve manual storage and picking operations with automation.

With 2 picking workstations and an easy-to-use app, operators can be trained in just 5 minutes. The app ties into several of the most popular shipping apps, making online order fulfillment a breeze. Pio provides 10x more space than traditional storage in the same footprint, 5X faster picking than manual operations, 99.9% picking accuracy and only needs a single operator.

If you’re interested in starting your automation journey with accessible, low barrier to entry technologies like Pio or looking to add to your existing system, contact us. Our engineers will explore your unique needs to find the right solution.

How Pio Works

Pio operates within an ultra-dense grid-like storage structure consisting of bins stacked on top of each other. The system employs autonomous robots which move on top of the storage grid to retrieve bins as needed. Pio’s software determines the location of the of the requested item within the bin, and the robot retrieves the corresponding bin and delivers it to the designated workstation. One bin can hold approximately 120 t-shirts, 8 pairs of shoes or 100 phones.

From the operator’s perspective, using Pio is easy. In the Pio app, tap “Pick” to access the order, then wait for the products to be delivered to the picking port. When the items arrive, pick and place them into the appropriate container or shipping box. If orders are to be shipped and the Pio system is connected to a third-party shipping application, adhesive shipping labels are automatically printed once picking is complete.

To replenish inventory, tap “Store” in the Pio app, identify the product and the system will bring an available bin.
