Students from Local Career Center Visit Bastian Automation Engineering

ncacp-visits-bastian-automation-engineeringJune 14, 2013 (Greenfield, IN) – More than 80 students from New Castle Area Career Program (NCACP) visited Bastian Automation Engineering (BAE) to learn about the material handling automation industry and to tour BAE’s 50,000 square foot facility.

“The high school juniors and seniors from NCACP are training for welding, machine trades, or pre-engineering curriculum,” explained Jason Effing, general manager at Bastian Automation Engineering. “Our team requires skilled individuals in each of these areas, so we wanted to bring in the students to show them how these skills are used in a manufacturing setting and hopefully interest them in working for BAE one day.”

During their visit, students were given a tour of the plant and production areas, and Effing gave a short presentation on the company, the automation industry, and available positions the students could apply for at BAE upon graduation.

New Castle Area Career Program is a cooperative of eight central Indiana high schools organized to offer career and technical education to juniors and seniors through 17 career programs. Around 500 students attend NCACP each year and earn dual college credits and industry certifications to prepare them for college and careers.

“We are very excited about the partnership opportunities with BAE,” said Bob Hobbs, Director of New Castle Area Career Programs. “It is important that our students visit companies like BAE to learn about the expectations employers have for their employees and to learn that there are career opportunities in our area. With these types of partnerships, students understand that what they learn in the classroom is relevant for the workplace.”
