The Games use competition to stress the importance and vitality of the logistics industry.
August 12, 2013 (Louisville, KY) – The first event for the seventh annual Louisville LogistXGames will be held August 15 in Jeffersontown, IN. The games were developed to showcase Louisville’s logistics companies, and holds competitions in other cities, inviting the winners back to Louisville for a final game to determine a winner.
“The games are a lot of fun but the main purpose is to help publicize the importance of logistics and distribution industries,” said Kevin Grove, founder of the games and senior vice president of real estate firm CB Richard Ellis. “With the games, we hope to encourage more investment and development in what is a very important part of the economy, both locally, nationally and globally.”
The games feature four major events:
- Pallet Puzzle Sprint – A timed event in which three team members have to build, label, and palletize three different box sizes. A special team-decorated box must also be carefully packed with three bottles of liquor and two different packaging materials to be placed on the top of the pallet.
- Pallet Jack Relay Sprint – Teams use a pallet jack to thread their freshly built pallet of boxes through an obstacle course in a quest to record the fastest time.
- Pick Pack Hurdle – Teams must sort their labeled boxes to locations within a wall of pallet rack. Teams are judged based on accuracy.
- Box Put – Competitors have to shot put their team-decorated box as far as they can. A distance penalty is assessed for each bottle found broken.
“It’s really a great opportunity for companies to recognize their employees for all their efforts,” Grove said.
The games will wrap up in Louisville on August 15.
