D.R.E.A.M. Alive Scholars Go Behind the Scenes at Bastian Automation Engineering

May 2, 2012 (Greenfield, IN) – From ear plugs to cars, the majority of things in our lives involve some form of engineering. This is just one of the concepts 15 young ladies learned about last Thursday when the D.R.E.A.M. Alive scholars visited Bastian Automation Engineering in Greenfield, Ind.

The goal of the visit was to introduce the group to engineering, and more specifically, mechanical engineering.

"We wanted to introduce the kids to things they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to experience such as welding and computer-aided design," said Bill Bastian II, president of Bastian Automation Engineering.

The visit included a presentation about engineering from Bastian Automation’s general manager, Jason Effing; a demonstration on computer-aided design (CAD); and a tour of Bastian Automation’s manufacturing facility, where employees were busy assembling, welding, painting, and programming various pieces of equipment.

"We are grateful to Bastian Solutions for hosting our scholars and giving them the opportunity for an up-close look at a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility," said Tarik Glenn, president of D.R.E.A.M. Alive, Inc. "This is an example of D.R.E.A.M. Alive in deep partnership with our corporate sponsors to engage our scholars in broadening experiences. This is a key part of our approach to developing young leaders and our mission to redefine education, community and success."
