DHL Automates New Carrollton, Texas, Facility with Help from Bastian Solutions

dhl-texas-and-bastian-solutionsCarrollton, TX – DHL, a global market leader in the logistics industry, opened a new parcel handling facility in Carrollton, TX, to improve the efficiency and service level of its supply chain network. The design of the new facility included the implementation of a conveyor sortation system designed and integrated by Bastian Solutions’ Texas office. The new automated material handling system transports parcels between DHL’s airplane and truck fleets during first operations.

As DHL receives product each morning via air carriers, parcels are transported down the conveyor line and sorted to the appropriate delivery truck. Parcels are hand loaded onto the truck and delivered that day. Trucks return at the end of their shift with outbound parcels, and the process is reversed; packages are unloaded onto the conveyor line and sorted to the appropriate aircraft.

“The system is simple, yet very effective,” stated Brian Reinhart, Regional Manager of Bastian Solutions’ Texas office. “By combining best-in-industry material handling equipment such as belted conveyor curves, belted transport conveyor, roller ball decking, and a centralized controls system, our team designed an efficient, easy-to-maintain system to handle DHL’s growing parcel volumes well into the future.”
