May 5, 2016 – Closing out the 2015-2016 academic year, the U.S. Naval Academy Engineering and Weapons Division hosted its fourth annual Capstone Day on April 27th. The event presented more than 100 capstone engineering projects to 150 VIPs and guests from public, private, and sponsoring organizations.
In attendance from Bastian Solutions were Bill Bastian II, CEO, and Derek Cribley, Director of Systems Engineering, both past graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy. During the event, Mr. Bastian and Mr. Cribley had the pleasure of attending the Navy Robot Football team capstone presentation.
The goal of the project was to design and build three robots—a quarterback, wide receiver, and center—that could accomplish a series of combine events testing the robots’ performance as well as work with one another to successfully complete passing plays in a robot football game during the 2016 Notre Dame Robot Football Competition.
“The team did an outstanding job designing and building their robots,” stated Mr. Bastian. “The increasing emphasis on project-based learning and STEM subjects is critical for developing young engineers and preparing them for future careers. It was a pleasure to be involved in the process, and I congratulate them on their efforts to build a competitive robotic football team.”
