Bastian Solutions, a global material handling systems integrator, is debuting a goods-to-robot e-fulfillment system at ProMat 2015, March 23-26. The system features a Fanuc M-20iA 6-axis robot, custom-designed end of arm tool (EoAT), and 3-D area sensor.
The robotic system will be integrated with an AutoStore AS/RS and ZiPline conveyor to demonstrate a fully-functioning single item picking system, perfect for minimizing the time between order and delivery of online products.
“Bastian Solutions has taken the next step into order fulfillment automation by designing systems that integrate with the back end of an AS/RS to fulfill à la carte orders and consolidate the items for shipment,” explained Greg Martin, Field Applications Engineer at Bastian Solutions. “These goods-to-robot, bin picking solutions help reduce labor costs, while simultaneously improving the speed and flexibility of custom order fulfillment.”
While robotic picking and packing technology is not new, the advances in 3-dimensional, randomly oriented item picking have been enormous, providing the single-item picking ability needed to easily fulfill e-commerce orders.
“Camera and sensor costs are dropping and the ease of implementation and programming is improving,” continued Martin. “The time required to introduce and ‘learn’ a new product has been significantly reduced with the packaged software solutions provided with many 3-D camera systems. This makes implementing a goods-to-robot picking system more economically justifiable than ever before.”
